26 PLAY THINGS – we act with

Semester Exhibition, Experimental Game Cultures Studio and Seminar Room 32

ACT NOW _ the social play between humans is triggered by objects. The haptic, the physical, the touch connects us with the world, with all non-human players. Then in Experimental Game Cultures studio the EPISTEMIC OBJECT—der Erkenntnis–Gegenstand—can be touched, squeezed turned around. In this way the closer we look to society, the world as we know it, the democracies are shaped by personal experiences—and can be understood—and in the best case collectively formed.

ACT now with the discourse activating objects—the PLAY-THINGS you touch in 2026: 26 Play-Things connecting to meaningful actions. Through a public showing, an exhibition we offer the experience of play as a method to socially intervene. Use our toys to reshape the world! Not Toys R´us but we are Toyers. This neologism describes the activated player, who thinks and ACT with play things, in deep play and social action.

The PSYCHO-LUDIC chamber

From drone paintings to PLA-Spectators towards autonomous play objects.

The artistic research projects “The Psycho-Ludic Approach. Exploring play for a viable Future – AR787” (FWF/PEEK) and “ROBOPSY (WWTF) An Artistic Exploration of Collective Memory through Role-Playing with AI Language Models (ICT23-020) / Digital Humanities. TOY_ OBJECTS” come together in an exhibition that treats play as a site of exploration. Drawing on experimental psychology, neuroscience and artistic practice, the works examine how games encode the logics by which we live—conquest, accumulation, winning—and what happens when these logics are turned on their head. Current global crises suggest that humanity’s strategies based on exploitation are reaching their limits. These strategies are deeply embedded in the mechanisms of games and play. Taking this interconnection as its starting point, this exhibition presents selected results from ongoing research: installations, prototypes and provocations that challenge familiar notions of agency, perspective and motivation. COME CO-PLAY with us!
